 1) Stockton, Stadt in Kalifornien, USA, am Unterlauf des San Joaquin River, 229 200 Einwohner; die Metropolitan Area hat 480 600 Einwohner; katholischer Bischofssitz; University of the Pacific (gegründet 1852); Handels- und Verarbeitungszentrum eines reichen Obst- und Gemüsebaugebietes; Binnenhafen (für Seeschiffe erreichbar).
 
 
1847 als Tuleborg gegründet, wurde während des Goldrausches in Kalifornien wegen des Zugangs zum Meer zur wichtigen Versorgungsstation. 1850 nach dem Befehlshaber der amerikanischen Seestreitkräfte im Pazifik während des Mexikanischen Kriegs, Robert Field Stockton (* 1795, ✝ 1866), umbenannt; seit 1850 City.
 
 2) Stockton-on-Tees [- ɔn 'tiːz], Industriestadt in der County Cleveland, Nordostengland, am Unterlauf des Tees, 83 600 Einwohner; Schwermaschinenbau, Eisen-, petrochemische, Düngemittelindustrie; Seehafen.
 
1825 erste öffentliche Dampfeisenbahn der Erde zwischen Stockton-T. und Darlington.
